National Australia Bank Senior Management Appointments - 3 March 2000
National Australia Bank announced today a number of senior management appointments in Australia and New Zealand.
Gordon Wheaton, currently Chief Executive Officer, Australian Financial Services will head the National's Integrated Shareholder Value program. In this role he will report to the National's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Frank Cicutto.
This is a major initiative to enable the adoption of a value based management and incentive compensation system across the National Australia Bank Group. The National has engaged the international company, Stern Stewart to partner this program.
Michael Coomer, currently Chief Information Officer, will provide direct assistance to Mr Cicutto in the further development of the Group's e -commerce and related activities. These are key components of the National's previously announced Growth Strategy.
Glenn Mescher has been appointed Chief Information Officer for the National Australia Bank Group. A widely experienced information technology manager, Mr Mescher is currently the National's General Manager Global Information Technology Sales and Service.
Prior to joining the National in 1997 , Mr Mescher was National Information Technology Service Delivery Manager for Telstra and Chief Manager, Business and Resources in the Information Technology Department of the ANZ Banking Group.
Mike Pratt has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, Australian Financial Services.
Currently Managing Director of the Bank of New Zealand, Mr Pratt joined the National in 1970 and has had a wide range of assignments since then.
Before his appointment to the Bank of New Zealand in 1998, he was General Manager Australian Financial Services, General Manager Human Resources and General Manager Custodian Services. He was instrumental in building the Group's strong position in the custodian business.
Peter Thodey has been appointed Managing Director, Bank of New Zealand. Mr Thodey has most recently led the Bank of New Zealand's highly successful business banking operations in his role as General Manager, Business Financial Services. He has also been active in the development of the National's global business banking strategies and operating models.
Paul Clark has been appointed General Manager, Business Financial Services for the Bank of New Zealand. Mr Clark is currently Head of Lending Services Asia Pacific for the National.
In announcing the appointments, Mr Cicutto said the Group was focussed on increasing shareholder value and the latest moves were part of an integrated program to achieve this.
"We need to integrate a shareholder value focus into every aspect of our operations," Mr Cicutto said.
"The appointment of Gordon Wheaton - one of our most experienced senior managers - to head our economic value added program reflects the seriousness of our effort.
"Equally, the new role for Michael Coomer in our e-commerce area is part of a concentrated program to ensure the National continues to gain operational and marketing benefits from rapid adoption of digital technology.
" These appointments reflect the continuing success of the National's talent management and succession planning systems ," Mr Cicutto said.
